Panel: Beyond the Hype: A UChicago Approach to AI
Artificial intelligence is transforming nearly every aspect of society—but at the University of Chicago, the conversation around AI goes deeper than rapid technological advancement. This panel brings together faculty from computer science and history, alongside a leading tech journalist moderator, to explore what sets UChicago’s approach apart.
Rather than focusing solely on building faster or more powerful systems, UChicago emphasizes the “science” of AI: rigorous inquiry into its foundations, limitations, and broader implications. From theoretical breakthroughs to historical context, our scholars examine not just what AI can do, but what it should do—and how it reshapes human knowledge, institutions, and values.
Join us for a thoughtful discussion on how interdisciplinary collaboration at UChicago is shaping a more reflective, principled, and forward-looking vision for AI.
- Henry Hoffmann, Liew Family Chair of Computer Science
- Ben Y. Zhao, Neubauer Professor of Computer Science
- Rebecca Willett, Worah Family Professor in the Wallman Society of Fellows, Computer Science, Statistics, and the College
- Emily Osborn, Associate Professor of History
